Probation Chiefs respond to The Times article about ‘privatising probation’

Probation OfficeThe PCA is quoted in The Times newspaper today (14 November 2011) in an article about the probation review. The article by Richard Ford, Home Correspondent, suggests full privatisation of probation is one of a series of options being considered in a ministerial review currently underway into the service.

The PCA has submitted a paper to MoJ and NOMS officials and to MoJ Ministers setting out the scope and arguments for the core probation service role in the public sector. The paper sets out the arguments for keeping court work and Offender Management together, since arrangements that divide this work would lead to fragmentation and the creation of silos, undermining efforts to protect the public and to reduce re-offending.
