Probation Chiefs welcome Justice Secretary Ken Clarke’s support of community sentences

I have carefully rationed my public utterances – other than a few brief forays – precisely because I didn’t want to jump into making public commitments before I’m confident of my views. I want to explain what will influence the Government’s decisions over the coming months and the direction of my own thinking.

I am grateful to the Centre for Crime and Justice Studies and Richard Garside for hosting this morning’s event, and grateful to you for turning out to hear me.
